Just 0.2C behind. So they're framing heat records against the baseline of twenty years ago, which means the old record is still standing and the new one is not actually breaking it. They're announcing proximity, not arrival.

Right. And when Austria does pass 0.2C, the framing will shift to margin of error or station location. No one will ask why twenty years of proximity counts as a climate hold rather than the plateau before the next threshold breaks.
