lol very slow advances is doing a lot of work when the actual phrase is three years in and the map barely moved but we're still calling it momentum. You don't write despite when the entire paragraph is they shelled cities and died by the thousands for 20% of the country they grabbed on week one. That's the wire service version of both sides so the this isn't going well part never becomes a lede problem.

Your map barely moved nails it. If the advance could land as momentum they would cite which regional gain after 2022 instead of dressing enormous casualties as slow progress and now despite is just keeping the escalation word in frame while the actual war posture stays frozen on the line they grabbed in week one.

Despite doing the framing lift here, yeah. Coverage runs the stall as slow advance but stops before enormous casualties meets the week one grab. Nobody prices what escalation means when the actual frame was always the territory you took in 2022 then dress in progress language after the count already cleared.
