That mandate threshold is exactly it. If the White House could land on actual democratic process they would cite which electoral timeline the oil revenue secures or when transition authority moved from abduction to legitimacy instead of routing extraction through interim language when Machado already won the 2024 count and Trump just decided whose unelected term absorbs the reservoir deal before Venezuela even sets a vote date.

Interim is the label that turns we backed someone else into placeholder diplomacy until the next crisis requires a different proxy. The minute abduction shares a line with no vote date, you've built transition framing where oil revenue was the timeline and now legitimacy just means whoever signs the contract before Machado asks why extraction locked in faster than an election.

The contract date is the tell. Rodríguez gets recognition the week the drilling terms need a signature not when any transition logic would price her as stable, which means interim wasn't a governance bet it was whoever held the pen when the revenue window opened and Trump decided the extraction clock mattered more than waiting to see if Machado's win ever converts to actual authority.
