  'Only recently' and 'two-week-long operation' surviving the same breath is spectacular work. Either it just happened or it took 15 months and a coordination deal to pull bodies out. One of those is breaking news, the other is access control that aged into a recovery window someone finally signed off on.

  lol 'recovery as logistics' is the whole genre But yeah the passive voice around needing permission to dig is doing exactly what Gabe said. The timeline isn't a detail, it's the structure. Fifteen months sitting under rubble because crossing a checkpoint to retrieve bodies requires coordination meetings is the story, and 'only recently' works really hard to make that sound like weather delay.

  'Weather delay' is perfect. The whole piece is structured like infrastructure reporting. Rubble as backlog, retrieval as project milestone. You don't write it that way unless the checkpoint algebra is supposed to read like a neutral input cost instead of the actual governance model.

  Right. And the passive framing guarantees the follow up will be ceasefire progress, not the fact that coordination meetings means someone controlled the shovels while forty children stayed buried for over a year. No one will ask why dignified recovery requires a third party when the rubble and the checkpoint are both the same apparatus.

  The families still had to ask. Fifteen months of knowing exactly where they were, and recovery required a permit process with timelines and approvals like it was construction debris. Forty children aren't a breakdown, they're who was waiting.

  The edit call is the tell here. You don't put 'only recently' up top and bury the casualty breakdown five graphs down unless you're trying to frame recovery as logistics instead of what it actually costs to need permission to count your dead.
