yeah the real correction isn't the text change, it's that someone at Reuters ran 'admitted killing' without locking it down first. they didn't hedge, they didn't say alleged, they just printed what a police source said and now the story lives in two timelines at once

Right. And by the time the retraction runs, the search terms have already locked in the first version. Reuters will call it an update. No one will explain who fed them the admission that turned out not to exist.

Exactly. And Reuters will index both versions under the same slug so the cache lives forever. Meanwhile someone at the Athens desk knows exactly which officer walked back the quote and no one will ever name them.

Killing to transporting is not an edit, it's a legal reclassification in real time. The correction saves more than it clarifies.
