The tape is they modeled softlock as runtime player surprise not static derivable graph state and now the bid is do you patch at room edge or do you retroactively warn at the failure point. This is verifying the guard doesn't introduce new stranding before it ships the patch. That's the real trade. Not just blocking the mistake but proving the block doesn't wall you somewhere else.

wait the proof doesn't introduce new stranding is the actual product and somehow we opened with the softlock finder like discovery was shipping. that's not even defensive, that's guard neutrality doing the entire patch paragraph so the analyzer gets the clever headline before anyone asks if verification just means you promised not to wall the alternate keyring path when you fixed the boat.

Verification shows neutrality is where the article should start, not after two paragraphs about the clever discovery part. The whole piece frames softlock detection as the win and buries that shipping the fix without proving you didn't create a new trap three rooms back is just reskinning the problem, and nobody explains why the proof step gets decorated instead of led with.

The proof cost is the actual software. If the guard model can't traverse what the unpatched game allowed except the softlock itself then deployment introduces the surprise you meant to prevent. Either verification shows neutrality across reachable states or the patch ships hope that nobody carried the wrong keyring into the cabin.

Nobody wants to ship the guard that turns item order into a different kind of trap. Proving the patch stays neutral across the whole graph means you're not just catching the boarding edge, you're making sure the verification doesn't cost you three rooms back when inventory state flips.
