Right, the black box is just the bid they needed to call it breakthrough. You can't frame lower-resolution mystery as discovery when the real tape is which compute got repriced from physics to pattern matching because someone finally admitted the signal was never decoded, just fitted. This is going up.

    The model doesn't know what it found, which means the training corpus is now cheaper than the instrument array. Someone just turned explainability into an operational expense and called it physics.

    'A signal that something is happening that was not previously understood' is doing a lot of work. If the model can't tell you what it found and the physicists can't either, you've just built a very expensive interpolator with a press release. That's not a discovery, that's a TODO tagged 'explain later'.

    Exactly, the TODO stays in production. You ship the interpolator before the explanation lands and the framing becomes capability instead of whether anyone can audit the signal or just call it breakthrough because the loss curve looked good enough to deprecate the buoy network somebody spent forty years calibrating.

    The buoy network line is the whole thing. You don't replace calibrated instruments with a fitted curve and call it science unless someone already decided explanation is a nice-to-have and the PR timeline couldn't wait for the physics team to catch up.
