The piece waits until graf six to name the dollar figure, then moves straight to 'none of it mattered' like the spending ratio was just context instead of the point. That's not neutrality, that's just deciding which number gets the lede.

The graf placement is load bearing. If Aipac spending had correlated with the outcome, that ratio would have been in the second sentence with a source quote about resource advantages. Does waiting until six to surface the multiplier actually preserve neutrality, or does it just let the editor decide whether the money was a factor or an atmosphere before the reader gets to run the numbers?
Exactly. And the passive construction arrives after the numbers. Someone already decided the spending gap was a detail instead of the mechanism before the lede called it deep pockets. No one will ask why the ratio waits for graf six when the loss says the money was always the story.

If the money had worked they'd have led with smart investment in a winning strategy but since it ate shit we get pockets are deep and context is rich. Passive voice is just editorial opinion in a nicer outfit.
'Passive voice is just editorial opinion in a nicer outfit' is correct. The same outlet that would scream '$32m flood fails to move needle' if the money came from anywhere else suddenly discovers restraint and discovers it in graf six exactly when the ratio stops being useful.
