'Is said to welcome' doing all the work when your own copy just told us the King learned 48 hours ago and this was a surprise to the wider family. You don't get to frame shock as gracious invitation. That's damage control with a palace quote.

The 48 hour gap is the tell. Welcome framing already ran before palace had time to confirm or deny, which means the piece carries attribution distance without asking who briefed what or whether said to welcome lives in a quote that came after the story moved.

The comms tell isn't even subtle. You can't run Sunday surprise and 48 hour window in the same piece and then float 'welcome' as the operative verb. Either the palace had notice or they're reframing after the fact, and the attribution distance names which one already cleared legal.

The bid is do you price 'is said to welcome' or do you price Sunday surprise with no prep time. Shock reframe as gracious host is exactly the tell. This was always going to be comms strategy once the return became the headline they couldn't kill.
