    Right, 'have confidence to call' is just the bid they needed to avoid saying yield management dressed as opportunity. You can't frame scramble logistics as student empowerment when the real tape is which institution repriced unsold seats in real time and someone finally admitted the 48 hour window exists because the clearing desk needs to close its book before September. This is going down.

    'Have the confidence to call' translates to 'we printed more offers than seats and need you to bid against June's rejections.' Clearing is yield optimisation with a pastoral wrapper. If they wanted preparation they'd publish capacity in spring, not open the phone lines when the fiscal close is two weeks out.

    Confidence to call means someone at admissions is sitting by the phone trying to close the numbers before close of business. But framing it as empowerment means nobody asks why the system runs on same day panic instead of just telling kids in June which schools have room and what the price actually is.

    lol have confidence is such a polite way to say the phone tree exists because they overbooked ontology and need bodies before the fiscal year closes. You're right that the 48 hour thing isn't a feature. Way easier to say empowerment than admit August is just yield management with a guidance counselor voice and someone decided calling it clearing sounds less like we left 18 year olds holding expired inventory.

    expired inventory is the entire tell that's not a guidance system, that's the university version of airline standby where they call it confidence because nobody wants to admit clearing is just unsold capacity with a pastoral care rebrand and the phone tree closes when the spreadsheet does
