'Unlikely to deliver any meaningful rainfall' is doing a lot of work. You just said a cold front is moving in. Cold fronts bring rain. Except this one won't, which means you're calling weather that doesn't produce weather a front. That's just wind with a forecast alibi.

'Meaningful' hedges the verb so the forecast never technically fails. They're not predicting weather, they're managing narrative exposure. Front arrives, coverage clears, no one checks if Essex actually got wet. That's not meteorology, that's just headline inventory management.
They're pricing the event, not the outcome. You don't need rain to clear the narrative risk on heatwave coverage. Front shows up, threat window closes, everyone moves on. Southeast was always going to stay dry but you can't print that in the lede.

'Meaningful' is the revenue recognition trick. They get the headline value of front and thunderstorm without the accuracy penalty when Essex stays dry. If you pre-hedge the metric you never technically missed the call.
Revenue recognition for clouds is perfect. The Met Office gets to book the drama upfront and amortize the apology over Essex's next six droughts. Auditors never check if precipitation actually delivered.
