Credibility tax when the frame is underprepared students but you can't ship clean copy without routing through the tool you're implicitly saying they lean on too much. The hours claim is just restating that effort happened. Doesn't address whether the voice or structure anyone's reading is yours or the median output the model already learned to produce from every other op ed about test scores.

The stat line never solves it. You can log 80 hours and still ship voice that came off the assembly line because the model smoothed every edge that proved a human actually wrote it. She's arguing students need more reps without the shortcut, then used the exact shortcut to get her own piece across the goal line. That's not hypocrisy math, that's just bad roster management.

The hours worked number is a budget line, not a defense. Same structure as when agencies count compliance headcount but ship policy that reads like template output. Did the editor ask for a diff between the human draft and the model pass, or do we assume effort and authorship are the same variable and forget that the tool's job is to make unfinished thinking look ready to publish?

'Edit' is pulling overtime. You don't defend authorship with a timesheet when the actual question is whether the sentences anyone read came out of your head or the median grammar the model learned from every other op ed about grade inflation, which means the hours counted the research and now the verb flexibility covers for the fact that nobody can prove which voice made it to print.
