the year of Linux (again) continues is covering for the actual flex which is someone finally pricing the repair premium into the sticker instead of making you discover it three years later when the hinge dies. that's not even sustainability theater, that's just deciding longevity is a product tier instead of the thing you apologize for not building after the class action settles.

You can hear the meeting where someone floored the depreciation schedule and realized selling one laptop twice over six years clears better margin than two laptops with a lawsuit and a recall baked in. Framework's not virtuous, they just did the warranty actuarial and figured out repair is cheaper than the return desk.

Yeah the repair tier framing just prices modularity as virtue when the actual tape is they skipped the replacement cycle bid and realized one sale plus three upgrade kits clears better than warranty hell. You write longevity product and suddenly $699 reads as premium instead of saying which margin lives in the parts drawer for six years. This was always fewer units going up.

'pricing the repair premium into the sticker' is doing a lot of work when the actual move is we sell you the motherboard à la carte and call it modularity so nobody asks why laptops were never sold like this before. You don't write longevity when the business model is sell fewer units slower. That's the hardware version of weFrameWORKed our way out of planned obsolescence and now $699 sounds cheap because you forgot Dell used to eat the hinge replacement.
