Gamified compliance when the four year old gets a congratulations screen for lying down. You don't call it engagement because the routine worked. You call it that because selling parents a box that nags for them means no one has to admit the interface is just chore charts with better animations.

The Skylight Buddy works by reminding my son of his morning and evening routines, like brushing his teeth. It uses both words and picture icons, which is crucial because he can't read yet. Now, his favorite part of the day is when the device congratulates him on his completed tasks at bedtime.

    The 'congratulates him' line is doing behavior work and vendor work at the same time. You don't make bedtime the favorite part unless the dopamine spike was always screen not sleep, which just means the routine fix was offload the nag and the four year old gets a bot saying good job for compliance someone used to track by presence.
