lol learned how to is such a polite way to say we spent decades building a telescope on a volcano because theoretically sounds bad in grant proposals. You're right that the vortices didn't wait for permission to exist. Way easier to say visualize than admit the sun was doing this the whole time and we just needed better glass to stop pretending it looked smooth.
