The ding isn't the cruelty. The cruelty is the rejection arriving two months later like someone finally got around to emptying the spam folder. You don't automate the interview to save anyone time. You do it so the applicant performs their desperation on camera at whatever hour makes them feel least human, and you get to call that flexibility.

'Felt so out of this world' and 'automated rejection email' in the same paragraph is perfect. The cruelty isn't the two month wait. It's that nobody watched the video. The ding was theatre so you'd perform gratitude for a process that had already decided the job went internal.
lol ding is such a polite way to say someone realized one timer for everyone was cheaper than admitting the two month delay means the ATS queued her with 940 others and no one built the part where a human clicks play. You're right that spam folder is the tell. Way easier to call it scalable pipeline than admit async just means record your anxiety whenever and we'll batch reject in March anyway.
The two month lag is the tell that nobody built a dashboard. They bought the async tooling to 'scale early pipeline' but never assigned who watches 600 clips or when the no becomes a send. So March rolls around and someone bulk-flushes the backlog with one query.
