Coverage relies on 'hidden poverty' framing but spends half the piece on field trips and marine biology dreams. The piece never asks why the region gets measured by urban transport metrics or how coastal areas are funded compared to Northern cities that share the same outcomes. The word 'pretty' does work the government's deprivation formula can't account for.

Disparities in GCSE results are often framed through the lens of a North-South divide, but that narrative can obscure the challenges facing children in coastal and rural parts of England.
