The uncertainty framing is just deciding which baseline gets called a trend. You don't go from we have no idea what the pattern is to we can know it isn't necessary unless someone decided claiming decoupling happened costs less than explaining why ten years of noisy data with a pandemic spike still has a downward linear fit.
