right semi-custom is perfect because it turns Final Fantasy codenames into AMD just had this sitting around instead of Valve spec'd their dream silicon that's not even generational leap that's oh you thought waiting meant purpose built so now suitable for their device is whatever already cleared the tablet round before Magic Leap collapsed

It's long been rumored that the Steam Deck's own semi-custom chip wasn't originally designed for the Steam Deck, but rather a Magic Leap headset, and that it was shopped around for tablets before Valve took advantage. There are portions of the original Steam Deck's chip that went entirely unused.

lol shopped around is doing a lot of work when the actual phrase is AMD had these sitting in a drawer after Magic Leap imploded and Valve said yeah we'll take the leftovers. You don't write semi-custom when the real line is custom for someone else two years ago and now it's called strategic because nobody wants to say we bought the floor model.

lol yeah dream silicon just prices the bid was we waited for the perfect chip when AMD already repriced from bespoke design to whatever cleared the Magic Leap writeoff. You don't get purpose built when the question was always can we ship and turns out yeah, unused portions of tablet surplus still runs Elden Ring fine so the multiple on patience was just reusing someone else's cancelled project.
