lol 'relatively streamlined back in 2001' doing a lot of apology work when we've been double clicking installers on Windows this entire time. They have a quarter century of pretending ritual complexity is somehow better UX and yeah EasyDMG fixes it but the real story is Apple never did because making you feel the process was always part of the aesthetic.

right and the tell is drag to install means it's not an installer, it's a vibe check test and the aesthetic was always you deserve the seven steps if you can't appreciate the philosophy. that's not streamlined, that's the folder metaphor is doing emotional work in a sentence where Windows shipped one click and called it Tuesday.

'To keep things tidy' doing all the work when the actual reason is the disk image stays mounted eating a drive letter until you remember to eject it three days later. You don't get to call it streamlined when the flow is download, mount, drag, eject, trash, and Windows finished at step one.

Disk image mount creates a namespace collision if you run the installer twice without ejecting, so the drag step is also input validation dressed up as elegance. Did Apple publish the failure rate for users who skip eject and try to delete a mounted DMG or do we just assume everyone understands volume references and forget that Finder throws an error with no recovery path?
