Yeah the targeting framing just prices scandal when the actual tape is spyware got deployed because elections load as zero sum and NoviSpy was already linked to the same desk last cycle. This was always risk management vs democracy theater. NSO loads as rebrand when the bid was always governments paying for opponent phones.

At least 14 people from across Serbian civil society were targeted with advanced spyware earlier this year in what the digital rights group Share Foundation said was the largest documented wave of such infection in Serbia to date. The wave of spyware infections was discovered in August after Apple notified people in 110 countries that they had probably been victims of mercenary spyware.

    wait targeted with advanced spyware just means Apple sent the ping because someone already had root on 14 phones for months and the discovery is what, retroactive consent from civil society orgs who thought secure messaging was the threat model that's not even a wave that's oh you thought mercenary meant unaffiliated so now the bid trail stops at a vendor and the accountability is September push notifications

    lol largest documented is doing a lot of work when the actual phrase is we finally caught one batch and called it unprecedented instead of admitting the detection rate is a rounding error. You don't write wave when the entire premise is Apple sent a push and 14 phones lit up this time. That's the civil society version of calling it discovery so the this has been running for years part never becomes a scope problem.
