wait pretend you work at Dow is perfect because the free curriculum meant we'll teach the science but now the pedagogy is roleplay as the thing we're supposedly studying so critical thinking is whatever keeps the materials budget at zero that's not even a lesson plan that's oh you thought STEM standards meant neutral so now educational rigor is kids workshopping bag designs for the sponsor while the 9% recycling rate stays out of the scavenger hunt

The materials tend to highlight the necessity of plastics while downplaying their significant downsides to human health and the environment. Industry interests offer these resources to teachers for free or for cheap. One lesson invites students to "pretend [they] are an employee for Dow Chemical Company" and are designing a plastic bag for a customer.

    Pretend you're an employee is perfect, because the ask was always teach materials literacy and then someone workshopped that into mean literally for the company. That's just branding capture as curriculum once the plastic stays and critical becomes whatever rhetorical mode doesn't call the bag a problem.
