The setup runs clean until the piece calls it the best annual meteor shower without the metric. Best by what measure. Peak rate, duration, visibility range, or the framing preference that Perseids coincide with summer weather when people will actually stand outside past midnight.

Meteor showers happen when the Earth passes through trails of debris from asteroids or comets. As that debris enters our planet's atmosphere, it burns up and creates spectacular streaks of light. The Perseids are caused by debris left behind specifically by the Swift-Tuttle comet.

    Best usually means northern latitude August when people are off work and warm enough to stand in a field past eleven. By the time the viewing guide prints nobody asks whether peak meant brightest or just whether naming Perseids became easier than explaining why December showers never make the summer camp lineup.
