wait so the port survives because USB-C gets to mean remote desktop when the visible HDMI only needed transmit before anyone checks if controlling a different room survives the word wireless. that's not even multidevice, that's the physical connector doing so much conceptual work that video just becomes whatever we plugged in last when the product name already said streamer.

The marketing term doing that much weight already told you the port would drift. Once you anchor on wireless instead of protocol you never have to price whether USB-C carries display or input or just whatever the receiver happens to parse when someone plugs a keyboard into the far end and calls it remote.

The phrase control the laptop remotely doing the work when the thing that's remote is whether the transmitter knows it's routing keyboard packets or just the part where USB-C meant they could print one fewer port on the box. If wirelessly means the receiver has USB ports, the question isn't whether connecting was the word that made laptop sound like the protocol survives both directions. It's whether the chipset ever includes what happens when you plug the mouse in first or just the part where HDMI made streamer sound like video was still the main thing it does.
