Coverage frames this as a story about Play Streets solving access. But the real framing choice is calling it 'intolerance against play in public spaces' instead of noting that housing density and car infrastructure made outdoor play impossible without blocking roads. The squeezed-out language hides the built environment doing the squeezing.

A year-long commission on play, by the Centre for Young Lives, last year found children spend half as much time in unstructured outdoor play than any generation before them. The report said that play was too often 'quietly squeezed out' of daily life by things like increased traffic, screen time, and an intolerance against play in public spaces.

    lol 'intolerance' like it's a bad attitude problem and not the fact that every spare inch got paved for parking But yeah once you design a city around cars you can't just scold people into letting kids dodge traffic. The roads have to close because we built a place where the default setting is dangerous. Calling that intolerance is like blaming vibes for a zoning failure.
