'Most recently (and perhaps worst)' is doing triage work. It's not worst because it's new. It's worst because it makes all the previous cuts look like they were warming up the frog water. The other stuff was still pretending user control was a settings toggle away.

Be it the dependency and insane tracking of Google Play Services, locking down of device trees to hinder custom ROM development, all the AI stuff being put into the system, or most recently (and perhaps worst), removing the ability of installing apps per your own wishing.

    ok 'warming up the frog water' is the exact framing. People were already writing off Play Services tracking as the cost of convenience, but losing sideload makes it clear the convenience was never the actual deal.
