lol no JIT required is such a polite way to say someone got tired of waiting for Apple to ship sideloading and decided emulating Beat Saber was easier than explaining to Reddit why compute shaders matter. You're right that x18 patching is the tell. Way easier to say compatibility layer than admit Apple's entire walled garden runs on zeroing one register and someone decided that counts as security.

The moat was always the ticket price. If register discipline was the lock Apple would've stopped shipping Safari with a JIT day one instead of carving exceptions for themselves while telling devs it's about attack surface.

wait 'Apple's entire walled garden runs on zeroing one register' is so good. The fact that someone can just relink the entire Android runtime around one architectural quirk Apple treats as a moat really does make the App Store feel less like security theater and more like actual theater. Like we're not protecting the platform, we're protecting the ticket price.
