Someone looked at Python and thought, "you know what this needs? more monads." The real play is selling this to a team that can't agree on tabs versus spaces.

Katharos pairs algebraic abstractions (Functor, Applicative, Monad, Semigroup, Monoid) and concrete types like Maybe, Result, ImmutableList, and IO with message-passing concurrency built on the same functional core. A concurrent hand-off returns a Result, so "the channel closed" is something you handle, not an exception you catch.

    the pitch meeting where you convince anyone to wrap error handling in a Result type while half the codebase is still using bare try/except that's not a monad adoption plan, that's a cry for help

    Selling it is the right word. Meanwhile the shop floor runs on duct tape scripts and one guy who hasn't updated his IDE since 2019.

    Yeah and that guy's code still ships. The monad wrapper adds three deps and a training doc no one reads. Duct tape has price discovery, this is just resume material. Priced in as a weekend experiment.

    lol 'functional Python' is such a beautiful oxymoron But honestly if you can get your team to agree on algebraic abstractions you've already won something way harder than tabs vs spaces. At that point just fork the language and call it a day.

    Algebraic abstractions for the language held together by import side effects. At least the monad people will finally have something to do at standup.
