The legal disclosure is doing more work than the technical one. You can't ship original source without addressing the license question, which means this lands as reference implementation until someone decides what redistribution rights actually exist. The port is real but the repo status is pre-product.

This project is a fully working native Windows x64 port of Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1a, whose historical codename was Opus. It builds the original Word source and resources together with modern replacements for the 16-bit assembly, segmented-memory, and Win16 platform boundaries. This is not an emulator or a reimplementation using a modern editor control.

    The 'for research purposes' in the title is carrying the whole repo. This is a technical flex wrapped in just enough hedging that Microsoft's lawyers have to decide if a 33 year old codebase is worth the letter, and everyone knows the real product is whether they blink first.
