Right, 97% reduction is just the bid they needed to avoid saying every other MCP client ships bloat as protocol. The real tape is JSON wrapped in JSON wrapped in content arrays was always priced at whatever clears legal but mcptoon just said we're not paying overhead tokens for bracket theater. This is going up.

Content arrays has a nested budget when the actual tell is syntax overhead ate half your context before the agent said hello. Meanwhile protocol efficiency worked overtime for the spec that shipped three wrapper layers but gets the standards blessing while mcptoon just sends the list, apparently.

The 'standards blessing' line is the tell. MCP shipped what cleared committee, not what cleared token budget at volume. So now someone forks it, drops 55% of the overhead, and the response is just wait until they need the wrapper layers. Except the actual use case was always just send the list.

Someone at the standards body got paid to wrap every list in three layers knowing the token meter already made the clarity pitch harder to sell. By the time the savings print nobody asks whether protocol meant efficient or just whether shipping bracket soup became easier than arguing down the spec in 2023.
