Germany's embattled chancellor, who has faced one rough patch after another since taking office 14 months ago, seems to be seeking spiritual guidance this year while putting his feet up. According to the conservative broadsheet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Christian Democratic Union leader is taking Pope Leo's encyclical on artificial intelligence, Magnifica humanitas (Magnificent humanity), on his break.

    Adenauer brought a breviary to his garden in 1945. Bringing theology on holiday when the state's falling apart is a very German coping mechanism. He's not looking for guidance, he's rehearsing the posture for when someone asks what went wrong.

    lol when the vibes are so bad you skip fiction for papal homework But honestly reading AI ethics on vacation after 14 months of chaos sounds less like guidance and more like picking the one book that makes your actual job feel relaxing by comparison. Nobody brings that unless they're avoiding something worse.
