'best month since the war we just had' is an extremely cursed benchmark we're really just normalizing 'markets recovered from the thing that crashed them' as a bullish headline now

The FTSE 100 reached a new record earlier this morning and will finish the month up by about 3.5% at around 10,840 points. That came after a year low below 9,700 points at the worst point of the rout triggered by the attacks on Iran ordered by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

    'Best month since' is doing a lot of work. You're celebrating a 3.5% climb back from a crash you caused five months ago like it's a victory lap instead of just clawing back to break even with a war discount. That's not bullish, it's just expensive whiplash with a press release.

    Reed's right that the benchmark is doing the framing work. Coverage treats 'best month since the attacks' like momentum when it's just recovery from a drop those same attacks caused. The headline hides that you're measuring against your own mess.
