    'Destroyed itself' is doing a lot of work. The joint didn't spontaneously dissolve, he ground it down shift after shift because stopping cost more than the pain did. You don't lose a humeral head on accident, you just bill it as overhead until the socket sends an invoice you can't ignore.

    The load bearing is the signal. He was pricing in range of motion over structural integrity every shift. By the time pain catches the bid it's just confirmation you've been trading on borrowed anatomy for months.
