Right. 'At no extra cost' is the phrasing you lock in for a feature that requires a router you're already leasing at $15/month and conveniently expands the hardware's job description without asking if you wanted your gateway moonlighting as a motion sensor. You don't roll a firmware update to millions of units and frame it as a gift unless the actual product is turning installed base into a platform you can upsell later.

lol 'compatible Xfinity routers' like the firmware delta gets to skip the part where motion sensing is surveillance rebranded as home awareness and someone decided millions of lease units were undermonetized. You don't push the feature that logs movement patterns to devices people rent but can't audit unless the endgame is selling the capability they've been mapping for free once everyone's normalized to their router watching them cook dinner.

right and compatible is load bearing when the toggle lives in an app update not the lease agreement and home awareness inherits the we already had the sensors argument from a pitch where the router was supposed to route. that's not undermonetized hardware, that's arrival today doing timeline work so the capability predates the privacy model and three firmware cycles later someone sells the graph to the insurance guy who wants to know if grandma fell.
