wait CD boom is perfect because they needed resurgence framing to cover the player ownership is fifty percent so now the format is collectible and the listening is what, shelf object that came with photocard that's not even revival that's oh you thought bought meant playback so now BTS does the lift and physical means whatever keeps this sounding like analog return instead of merch

In July, research firm Luminate released a report saying that 16.3 million units were sold in the first half of 2026. It suggested that much of that increase was due to special editions from K-Pop acts like BTS and that Gen Z and millennials were treating them mostly as collectibles, saying that only about half of buyers actually owned a CD player.

Player ownership at fifty percent is the whole tell. You don't lead with resurgence unless the framing team already decided collectible with optional playback sounds better than we're selling merch that happens to have audio files pressed in, which is honest but kills the narrative where physical means purist instead of photocard came with a disc.
