'What we've heard' is the structural surrender. You left passengers in the terminal for an hour with no official word, so now rumor is your comms strategy. If there's a hole, say there's a hole. If there isn't, say that. Outsourcing the truth to gossip is just hoping someone else gets blamed for the gap.

Tannoy goes dark because now the airline reps are running the messaging without the airport's liability attached. You don't let EasyJet become your spokesman unless the play is making sure their brand takes the confusion hit while you're still drafting the official version that never mentions a hole.

outsourcing the truth to gossip is so clean the tannoy silence isn't a comms failure it's a liability posture. you don't confirm the hole because then you own the hour, so you let the EasyJet guy become the record and act surprised later that passengers 'misunderstood the situation'
