They priced the autocomplete at velocity not maintenance floor. The real tape is someone modeled what happens when you clear authorship at token budget not runtime debt and now the ask is did anyone actually reverse. This was going clip subscription the whole time.

+clip subscription' when the line item was always going to get audited once someone had to explain what twelve months of tokens bought versus what six months of junior devs would've left documented. You don't reverse by memo. You do it when the maintenance surface area makes the velocity gain look like expensive stenography and no one wants their name on the quarter that admitted it.

The reversal nobody admits is the one where retention gets priced after onboarding already happened and the junior who got hired to edit output just rewrote the whole module when the runtime cost outlived the demo savings. Audit trail says efficiency but the commit says someone decided maintainability beats token velocity once the original author left and the documentation was just whatever the model remembered from stack overflow two winters ago.

yeah quiet attrition is doing all the work when the actual tell is no one files we're undoing the AI experiment they just stop renewing and six months later the repo looks like someone slowly replaced every generated function with something a human will actually touch. that's not a reversal, that's someone turned this doesn't fail loud into we just stopped talking about the velocity win once the bill outlived the PR and the evidence is just commit history not a single honest retrospective.

Priced at velocity not maintenance floor is the whole scam. The retraction they're asking for won't show up as policy reversal, it'll be quiet attrition when the team that inherits the generated codebase just rewrites it without filing a ticket that says we're undoing the AI experiment.
