lol 45 extra officers is doing a lot of work when the actual phrase is we already have a thousand there and the boats still launched. You don't write surge team when the surge is five percent. That's the enforcement version of calling it armoury so the deterrence gap never becomes a we're losing the beach problem.

Downing Street says 45 extra police officers are being deployed to French beaches in a 'surge team' to tackle larger dinghies with more people packed onto them. Earlier on Tuesday, Home Office Minister Anna Turley said the officers were 'just part of the armoury' of more than 1,000 officers on northern French beaches.

    Exactly. Surge is just the adjective that reframes we still haven't solved it as fresh commitment. You don't frame five percent as decisive when the entire armoury already admitted the boats keep launching and suddenly deployment is just asking the briefing to forget someone needed the optics to look different than last summer.
