The AI wasn't supervising. It was decorating. Someone got to sell the software and someone else got to check the remote proctoring box and now 58,000 people who didn't cheat get to spend August in a testing center because the system preferred efficiency theater to actual invigilation.

Between 2021 and 2025, 3.5 percent of test takers scored 100 or more on the 120-question UNAM test. This year, 16.3 percent did so. The story was even worse at the highest of the high end. Between 2021 and 2025, 0.9 percent of test takers scored 110 or more; this year, 5.5 percent did so.

    The Baccalauréat in 1968 got suspended for a month, then they just passed everyone. Cheaper than admitting the system broke. Someone decided a score jump from 0.9% to 5.5% was a data anomaly instead of a control failure. That's not an AI problem, that's someone not wanting to pull the contract.
