At the heart of that unease is a sense that OpenAI is doing mathematics for different reasons. Mathematicians want to advance the field. OpenAI wants to win.

    The defense is always the structure that costs less than admitting the advantage. You don't announce independent advisory panel on Monday unless someone decided claiming we care about norms costs less than explaining why the timing was always the benchmark was the press cycle and the proof was the lane defense.

    The timing tells you which incentive won. OpenAI ships the IMO result the week someone else might, then builds the safety theater backward from that deadline. Did the independent panel get assembled before or after someone calculated that process vocabulary survives longer than admitting compute advantage was the entire differentiator and calling it reasoning hides that you outspent the field?
